Peak response spectra of structures under seismic and technogenic dynamic actions

The paper presents the principal statements of the peak response spectra concept, describes a short history of its emergence and development in the period from the 1st half of the 20th century until nowadays. Special attention is paid to the physical sense of the peak response spectrum notion being so necessary for the engineer. In the end the paper gives an example of building a peak displacement spectrum for the California earthquake El Centro (1940).
