Introduction. The "standing waves" method allows obtaining of high-precision information about the natural vibrations of dams and buildings of medium-pressure channel hydroelectric power plants, while taking into account the design features of structures in the planning of the observation system.

Methods. Based on the results of the study of the Irkutsk hydroelectric power station dam building by the standing wave method, the natural vibrations of the building on the longitudinal, transverse and vertical components were studied.

Results. Significant differences were established between the experimentally determined natural frequencies and the calculated ones, according to the model compiled during the commissioning of the hydroelectric power station. The block structure of natural vibrations of the building is shown. A unique result is the existence of two modes of vertical vibrations of the dam.

Conclusions. The studies performed are important for drawing up a passport for the hydraulic structure and for adjusting the calculation model.
